Ramus Illumination Engaged to Light Up 1000 La Trobe
Poly Australia has officially signed on urban art specialists Ramus to design a public art installation for 1000 La Trobe St, Docklands.
Melbourne public art agency, Ramus, are trailblazers in their niche, with artwork incorporating light, sculpture, digital media and interactive technology across the city.
The proposed design will accentuate the essence of the 1000 La Trobe St design. It tributes the history of the site and how the train lines which passed through the area were integral to connecting the city to the sea.
In collaboration with Development Victoria, Poly Australia will deliver a public art installation which continues to cultivate arts and culture throughout the district. This expands on Development Victoria’s regeneration plans for the Docklands precinct.
Poly Victoria Executive Director Steve Wang said, “delivering a public art piece which is innovative and interactive was the quintessential way to celebrate the developer’s flagship development in Victoria.”
“The development is going to be an iconic piece of the Docklands precinct so it’s essential the art installation is equivalent in its design and prestige. Ramus have an exceptional portfolio across Melbourne and we’re confident the art installation will be something truly impressive and unique.”
“It will be a creative design, optimising on light and illumination to highlight varying elements and emphasise the history already ingrained in the development design,” he said.
Since Development Victoria’s push for public art in the district, the institution developed the Harbourside Docklands Art Trail app, providing insight to the art within the area for all users to enjoy at their own pace. The app covers artwork throughout Docklands, starting at Marvel Stadium, along Harbour Esplanade, Waterfront City, Victoria Harbour and Batman’s Hill. The Harbourside Docklands Art Trail app is available for download from the Apple Store and Google Play.
Ramus will be completing just one element of the public art installation for 1000 La Trobe St Docklands, with another public art competition launching for the development mid-2019.
